Maybe Indy DOES have some mountains!

I’ve been an Indy-promoter for most of my professional career. And I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard the expression, “Well Indy doesn’t have mountains or sea shores…but what we DO have is…(fill-in-the-blank.” Well, I believe we’re about to adopt some mountains:

On Saturday, March 14, Indy native, Markie Rexroat will begin a six-month, 2,000+ mile trek along the Appalachian Trail. Markie is using this opportunity, she says, to get back to a more simple way of living. “I would like to live for a while with nothing but the essentials,” she says. “Food, clothing and shelter and really develop my appreciation for all that nature has to offer.”

KnowOutlets

Markie also wants to make a difference for others and has chosen to bring awareness to the Know Outlets campaign, which we began late last fall to benefit the homeless population of Downtown Indianapolis. In my opinion, Markie is bringing the mountains to us and this is a perfect match. Let Markie tell you:

“I ask that as I am on this journey you consider making a contribution to the Know Outlets campaign. The Know Outlets campaign is administered by the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention & Prevention (CHIP) based in Indianapolis, with leadership from Downtown Indy, and supported by Indianapolis businesses, organizations, and individuals. The goal is to educate Indianapolis residents, visitors, and business owners on what outlets are available to support Indy’s homeless population in order to improve the lives of our city’s homeless in the most meaningful ways possible. For more information about the campaign please visit their website: www.knowoutlets.org. All funds raise via this page will go directly to the campaign. Know Outlets funds directly work to match homeless individuals with services that will best meet their needs, with the ultimate goal of helping each individual become self-sufficient.” – Markie Rexroat.

We admire Markie’s courage to take on this personal challenge and appreciate her efforts to make this about something more than just herself. Let’s show Markie our admiration and help support Indy’s homeless.

Markie has put together a site where you can support her efforts. I just made my contribution. That’s the easy part compared to what Markie’s doing. Will you join me? Go to:  http://www.gofundme.com/on12f0 Contributions can also be mailed to Know Outlets c/o CHIP, 3737 N. Meridian Street, Suite 504, Indianapolis, IN 46208, or made online at www.knowoutlets.org.

Follow her on Facebook for updates along the way. Good luck and be safe, Markie – we look forward to your updates! And thanks for bringing the mountains to Indy.
