Being the real estate junkie that I am, I jumped at the chance to go on the Indy Rama tour this past weekend. The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) put together a fantastic lineup of custom, single family homes, that are impeccably landscaped, designed and decorated. I’m embarking on a landscape renovation at my own home in Fountain Square, so the tour was perfect inspiration.
Speaking of inspiration, spending time in the seven distinct neighborhoods featured on the tour made for the perfect weekend of exploration. Some of Downtown Indy, Inc.’s friends went on the tour and detailed the unique homes here and here.
I would love to share a few of my favorite things in each of the seven featured neighborhoods. I hope these inspire you to return or reside in your favorite neighborhood.
- Fountain Square: It’s all about the food! I feel like I’m picking favorites among my children, but I’ll say Wildwood Market’s breakfast sandwich is a “can’t-miss” on Saturday morning. They open at 10 a.m. and are sold out by 11:15 a.m.. But no worries, they make one killer lunch sandwich too.
- Chatham Arch: Again with the food (are you sensing a trend?). My favorite chicken wings in town can be found at Chatham Tap. Score a seat on the back patio and enjoy cold beer.
- St. Joseph: Sign up for a community yoga class at Invoke Studio on Sunday. It is a great way to prepare and unwind for the week ahead. $10 drop in, register ahead of time as the classes fill up!
- Windsor Park: The Circle City Industrial Complex is one of the coolest places in the city. It’s a workspace, art gallery, innovation hub and more. If I had a pick a favorite stop, I’d say Centerpoint Brewery. The beers are delicious and the chill vibe among the regulars is authentic. I recommend the Blood Orange IPA.
- Kenndy King: The most compelling piece of public art in the city is located here. The Landmark for Peace Memorial honors the contributions of the slain leaders Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. The memorial, which features King and Kennedy reaching out to each other, was designed and executed by Indiana artist Greg Perry. The bronze portraits were created by Indianapolis sculptor Daniel Edwards.
- Herron-Morton Place: Two of my favorite street festivals happen in Herron-Morton Place during month of June. Talbot Street Art Fair and Independent Music and Art Fair. Mark your calendar for June 17 and 18 – I’ll see you there!
- Fall Creek Place: I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the crowd favorite of Goose the Market. My sister and her family live in one of the originally renovated homes along Pennsylvania and we love strolling with our boys to get some gelato (and a good bottle of red wine).
